About Vallejo Neighborhood Housing

Vallejo Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. (VNHS) was incorporated in 1980, at which time its target area was the Southside of Vallejo, California. In its 25th year in business, VNHS is recognized as one of the premier providers of home ownership opportunities for low and moderate-income residents of Solano, Napa and Contra Costa counties. VNHS is currently ranked 17th in production in the National NeighborWorks© Campaign for Home Ownership 2002 (which includes over 100 NeighborWorks© organizations), in spite of serving one of the ten least affordable markets in the nation.

Led by a resident-majority volunteer board and managed by an eight-member professional staff, VNHS offers a variety of programs such as: the Homebuyers Club, a six-week training course for potential homebuyers, Fastrack, an eight-hour course for more mortgage-ready buyers, below-market rate first mortgage loans and second mortgages for down payment assistance, closing cost grants for first time homebuyers and post purchase products such as exterior paint grants, very low interest rate housing rehabilitation loans, foreclosure prevention and early intervention delinquency counseling. VNHS also builds housing for sale to very low and low-income families, purchases vacant housing and rehabilitates it for sale to first time homebuyers and manages its own stock of rental housing available to very low and low-income residents. Additionally, VNHS continues its work with the Vallejo Neighborhood Revitalization (VNR) initiative, a multi-agency approach to promote and measure targeted neighborhood revitalization.
